Hair Straighteners – Not Only for Dead Straight Hair

Hair Straighteners – Not Only for Dead Straight Hair

Hair Straighteners are regularly a saviour for many women with curly hair who are desperate to maintain a degree of control over the way their hair looks. Perhaps a little surprisingly, there are also a high number of women who are equally as keen to enjoy the freedom of bouncy ringlets and the modern hair straighteners we offer allow you to create curvy or wavy hair as well as straight hair.

Hair Straighteners – Two Methods for Curling your Hair

To curl your hair using hair straighteners or stylers, tie it back with clips and start from the bottom layer of hair on one side of your head. Using your hair straightening iron, clamp it to a small section of hair and slowly curl it upwards. An alternative option is to spray a small area of hair with serum before placing the hair straighteners about an inch from your scalp and pulling them towards the end of your hair – the spray will have an instant effect and make your hair curl in the same way that a ribbon curls when you move scissors along it.

Hair Straighteners – Enhance your Facial Features

Hair Straighteners can be used to make aspects of your facial features that you prefer to stand out more. As an example, if you have distinctive cheekbones, you can straighten your fringe and it will work wonders for making your cheekbones appear even more defined, also highlighting your eyes at the same time. Another option that is beneficial to women with thick and bouncy hair is straightening the top layer only, this means the hair will appear straight and sleek but your natural wavy locks will maintain the body of your hairstyle underneath.

Hair Straighteners – Make the Right Decision

No matter which hairstyle you decide to create using your hair straighteners, always remember to protect your hair from the extreme heat they emit in order to keep your hair as healthy as possible. Be sure to buy good heat protective spray and ensure you only purchase hair straighteners with ceramic or tourmaline plates for ultimate safety and protection.

Straighteners – A Short History Of…

Straighteners – A Short History Of…

Have you ever wondered how the straighteners of today evolved over the years and how they compare to the straighteners used in the old days?

History of – Straighteners

Looking at all the technology that is poured into the design of straighteners now and how easy they are to use, it is hard to believe just how much they have evolved over the years from the old heating irons to the modern day straighteners. Learning about what ladies years ago had to go through to keep their hair straight, shows that we most definitely take for granted the present day straighteners. Some people may still find that they slightly singe their forehead with straighteners these days but nothing can compare to the ruin of many a head of hair, and scalp when using straighteners in earlier times.

A lot of evidence backs up the idea that early day straighteners (i.e. hot irons) were available to the public even as early as 1872 and it was approximately this time that a gentleman called Marcel Grateau started using heated rods to straighten hair and so the invention of straightners has been attributed to him. Apparently Marcel then invented another instrument made up only of metal, yet also using heat for the purpose of straightening hair. This device helped not only with the straightening techniques of the early straighteners but also caused less damage than some of the prior straighteners. A lot of people attributed the later device, the straightening comb to Madam Walker, around in 1905. However, although she was responsible for producing a lot of hair care products, she most certainly did not invent this next instalment in the evolution of straighteners.

How the Straightening Comb Worked

The comb was positioned in a special warming gadget until it was heated through to the right temperature. Then, just as now when we pull straighteners through our hair, it was also pulled through the hair. However, it is most likely that these early straighteners were not quite as easy to use or as safe as there are many stories about how these early straighteners were often accompanied by a stench of scorched locks and scalp.

Since the time of Marcel Grateau many different metals and materials have been researched and then tried and tested in order to make these early straighteners better. For instance aluminium was used on such early straighteners. Most manufacturers these days, however, feel it is better to use ceramic and tourmaline in the production of straighteners.
New straighteners are introduced to the market every year and no doubt will continue to develop, getting better and better as time goes on.

Hair Straighteners – Taking Care of your Product

Hair Straighteners – Taking Care of your Product

Making sure that your hair straighteners are in good condition will ensure that they work to the very best of their ability. Cleaning and storing your hair straighteners in the correct way will not only make sure that they last longer but will keep your own hair in better condition too.

Cleaning and Storing Your Hair Straighteners

Cleaning your hair straighteners is extremely important! This will help to keep the hair straighteners working at the very best of their ability, by removing all the layers of build up from all hair products. You must ALWAYS remember to make sure that your hair straighteners are turned off and have cooled down before you clean them.

- Using a soft, dry and clean cloth, lightly rub down the ceramic plates of your hair straighteners.
- Do not ever use anything sharp to clean the hair straighteners, as this will scratch and ruin the plates.

- To reach and clean the smaller creases of the hair straighteners, the best way forward would be to, using a cloth, cover a fingernail and clean away into the smaller areas of the hair straighteners.

- Never twist the cable around the hair straighteners. The correct action would be to twist the cable together, securing it with an elastic band.

- When finished with your hair straighteners, make sure that they are no longer plugged in and also be certain that the hair straighteners are cool before storing them away.

- When travelling with your hair straighteners, as always be certain that they have completely cooled down before storing the hair straighteners in baggage.

Hair Straighteners - Use them Safely

Hair Straighteners - Use them Safely

Hair Straighteners are one of today's most desirable electrical products, used in professional salons and homes up and down the UK and in many other countries around the world. Despite their huge popularity, hair straighteners need to be used carefully and with safety in mind.

Hair Straighteners - Piping Hot Temperatures

It is a well known fact that modern day hair straighteners and styling products reach temperatures in excess of 200 degrees and therefore present an element of danger if they are not handled properly.

As hair straighteners get extremely hot, be sure to turn them off when not in use and leave them out of reach of young children who may be at risk of burning themselves. Furthermore, do not leave them close to combustible liquids or materials as they may pose a fire threat.

Additionally, if you like to 'pick up' and 'put down' your hair straighteners during your styling routine, remember to avoid resting them on carpets, sofa's and cloths in order to avoid burn marks, in exactly the same way that you would with an iron.

Hair Straighteners - Heat Mats and Safety Pouches

Hair Straighteners Direct offers accessories including heat mats and safety pouches which are designed for use with hair straighteners and stylers. Firstly, heat mats are designed to do exactly what their name suggests and provide a safe area for your hair straighteners to be placed in between usage. Many heat mats double as a safety pouch and are ideal for storing your stylers in during the 'cooling down' process they go through.
